October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month — A Time to Take Action, Together

What Breast Cancer Awareness Month Means

Each October, pink ribbons bloom across the country — a symbol of hope, strength, and unity in the fight against breast cancer.
For Breast Care for Washington DC (BCW), Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a powerful opportunity to remind our community of the importance of early detection and equitable access to care.

We are dedicated to providing quality breast health care to every woman — especially those in underserved communities. Through screenings, education, and support, BCW helps women take charge of their health.

Why Early Detection Matters

Early detection is the best protection.
Getting a regular mammogram in Washington DC can find breast cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment is most effective.
BCW provides free and low-cost mammograms, along with diagnostic imaging and education, so no woman is left behind.

Our goal is simple: to ensure that every woman in the District has access to life-saving care — regardless of income or insurance status.

Our Ongoing Impact

Since opening our doors, Breast Care for Washington D.C. has served thousands of women — detecting cancers early, connecting patients to treatment, and saving lives through education and prevention.
Each woman who walks through our doors is more than a patient — she’s part of our community.

This October, we celebrate survivors, caregivers, and the dedicated healthcare professionals who make our work possible.

How You Can Make a Difference

  • Get screened: Schedule your mammogram — or encourage someone you love to do the same.
  • Spread awareness: Share BCW’s mission and resources on social media.
  • Donate or volunteer: Your support helps us provide free and low-cost breast imaging to women in need.
  • Join the Power of Pink 25 Campaign: Stand with us as we raise awareness and funds to continue making breast care accessible to all.
